California Dreaming (fingerstyle guitar) Video

Michael Chapdelaine created a fantastic version of this classic Mamas and Papas song, well worthy of learning. However Michaels unique combination thumb-slap string-flick technique was a bit hard for me to do so I simplified it to human playable. It think I've got it *reasonably* easy to play but still sounding true to his work.

I'm still learning it as you will probably notice from the vast number of pauses and mistakes - but with the recent death of the second last Mama and Papa I figured I'll get it out there as a bit of a tribute.

I really like there style genre , So will this help me decide lol only been playing a short time , I learnt that Mad world by sungha jung? in two weeks which is pretty good for me im slow.

thanks for your reply! BTW i never told you how amazing your playing is, truly master of fingerstyle mate well done. So im only new to this style of playing and i have been learning on a steel string? semi acoustic , my question is would you recommend i continue learning on that or should i learn on nylon? thanks in advance ;)

Yep, steel. Once callouses have formed, it's no problem. Even playing nylon you still get callouses, just not as much as on steel. ? Both hands - on the left the callouses form quickly, a few weeks, right hand it takes longer and you have to do more playing - I normally play on fingernails so right hand callouses aren't the problem, it's the cracked nails!
